From The Crescat, Winter, 1995:
Father Patrick J. Donahue, OSB, was claimed by the Lord on October 27, 1994, after a long illness with emphysema.
Father Patrick, born and raised in Maryland, entered the novitiate at St. Vincent Archabbey in 1930 and was professed as a monk of Belmont Abbey in 1931. He was ordained a priest in 1936. In 1944, he was assigned to St. Benedict's Priory in Richmond, Virginia, "for one year," but remained there for 43 years. Over his many years in Richmond he taught English and German at Benedictine High School, was chaplain at McGuire Veterans Hospital, directed athletics at St. Benedict's Elementary School, and coached junior varsity teams at Benedictine High School. When Father Patrick returned to the Abbey in 1987, he became a member of the Liturgy Committee, Community Trust for the Poor, and was almoner of the monastery up to the time of his death. He remained faithful to celebrating Mass daily and was outstanding in his devotion to community observance.
