From a letter 30Sep2005 from Eleanor Todd-POBox43-GoodwoodON-L0C_1A0 Uxbridge Journal - June 17, 1880 A Popular Man - "One of the most popular men in the township is Patrick Cosgrove, a true t yp of the noble Milesian, and a lineal descendent of Daniel O'Connel l, to whom he bears a close resemblence. Patrick is in his 72nd summer (f or he looks as though there were no winters in his life) and is good f or a score of Donnybrooks yet. He carries the veritable black thorn whi ch was wielded by Bryan Boru, on the glory fileds of Clontarf, and which h as descended to the present owner through his uncles, his cousins and h is aunts for many generations. Next to the "ould sod" Patrick values h is "sthick" as the object nearest his heart." Jan. 1882 - Patrick Cosgrove farm up for sale - E1/2 of lot 11, Conc.1, 1 00 acres, 70 acres cleared. 2 frame dwellings and a good stone house, bar n, shed, young bearing orchard etc. June 8, 1882 report of council meeting: The ever present Patrick Cosgrove appeared complaining of being assessed f or a dog he didn't own, though admitting his family kept said dog on his p remises. The assessment wa very properly confirmed and poor Pat has g ot to pay his dollar. References
