William W. Reynolds, Sr., was a native of Westerly, R. I., and settled in Petersburgh in the year 1780. He had a family of eight children, of whom Parley Reynolds was the first born in Petersburgh, Aug. 24, 1780, "the year the family came, then consisting of Mr. & Mrs. William W. Reynolds and their two sons, Thomas and Benjamin, who were born in Westerly, R. I.
Parley entered at an early age into the mercantile business as a clerk for his eldest brother, Thomas, and after a few years he was taken in as a partner. Commencing life poor, by close attention to business he became one of the wealthy men of his town. He married Esther Holmes, of Stonington, Conn.
