2 Nov 1810: Joseph Valentine, Esquire, Nathan Perry, Esquire, and amaziah Claplin, yeoman, the major part of the Selectmen of the town of Hopkinton ... in their judgement Orlando Barrett of said Hopkington, laborer, does by excessive drinking, and idleness so spend, waste and lessen his estate as thereby to expose himself to want and suffering circumstances; and does also thereby endanger and expose said town of Hopkinton to a charge and expense for his maintenance and support: They, therefore, pray that your Honor would appoint some suitable person or persons, guardian or guardians, to said Orlando Barrett ..." Orlando Barrett cited to appear.
25 Jun 1838: "Whereas my Father John Barrett late of Hopkinton has died intestate who has left real Estate lying in the Middle of the Town a certain part of which will decend to me - I am not a suitable person to take prudent care of the property I therefore desire that your Honor would appoint Mr. Cromwell Gibbs of said Hopkinton my Guardian.
