Dear Brother Haynes I received your kind and wellcome letteryesterday and was so glad to hear from an old friend and such good newsI have rejoiced ever since and felt like giving glory to Jesus now forhis goodness and mercy we are all in tolerable health have two sonsand daughter one boy is at work on the road other gone to Chicago tobuy lumber our spring has been rather backwards but grass and crops aredoing well our corn was large enough to plow so we go through it in Maybout one hundred acres.

I was born on what used to be called the Garretson place down by thecreek in the little log house in 1811 sept 26 I am spry and lively andcan run a good race now I expected Bro Carpenter had gone over theriver since I neeld at alter for Prairs at Clovesville and received thepardon of my sins I well remember the time and circumstance and eversince I hope to meet you and many more used to know on the bright shoreof everlasting love where we can sing the praises of God with those thatgone before Amen so may it be I do not know what may turn up or downIt may be I shall see some of my old friends on my native soil yetbefore I die who knows. Edwin said he was going and if he does I will bewith him.
