Knell, Nicholas. Colonial grant of 50 acres, May 1668, and more, May 1669. Quite likely he was a veteran of War (1637). He was an early settler in Fairfield, but sold his property there to George Stukey, who in turn conveyed it to Giles Smith, who entered it for record 17 Dec. 1651. Just when he left Fairfield cannot be determined, but he settled permanently in Stratford before 1650. Married Elizabeth, widow of Thomas Knowles of New Haven. Will 24 Mar. 1670/1, proved 14 Mar. 1675/6; wife Elizabeth; two sons Isaac and John; overseers, Richard Booth, Mr. Isaac Nichols, and Mr. Joseph Hawley. Described as "Yt aged benefactor in ye Countrey", he d. 2 Apr. 1675.
