    Nicholas Helmich married 1st abt. 1788 at Fayette Co., PA to Mary FRANKS (1769-1830), dau. of Michael and Elizabeth (LIVENGOOD) FRANKS. There were nine children born of this marriage.
    He married 2nd on 11 Mar 1834 at Hancock Co., Ohio to Sarah (LITTLETON) WARD (1795-1879), widow of Willis Jesse WARD.

    In Sept. 1777. while a resident of Winchester, Virginia, Nicholas HELMICK(1760-1844) enlisted and served three years and nine months under General George CLARK, as a private in Captain John CHAPMAN's company in Colonel CROCKETT's Virginia regiment. He marched from the Allemarle, Virginia to Fredericktown, Maryland; thence to Shepherdstown on the Potomac; to the Newstone? within about twelve miles of Pittsburgh, Penna.; down the Ohio River to Wheeling; thence to the falls of the Ohio River; and on to a mudfort at Fall River, Kentucky, where Ensign BULLOCK gave him a written discharge from the Army of the United States.--- From FAG contributor D.     Nicholas Helmick (1760-1844) Revolutionary War Veteran, married 1st abt 1788 to Mary Franks 1769c-1830c), dau. of Michael and Elizabeth (Livengood) Franks of Fayette Co., PA. They had nine children including Sally Helmick who married 1815 at Stark Co., Ohio to Isaac DeCoursey. Mary (Franks) Helmick died abt 1830 and Nicholas Helmick married 2nd 11 Mar 1834 at Hancock Co., Ohio to Sara (Littleton) Ward, widow of Willis Jesse Ward. Nicholas died 26 Sep 1844 at McComb, Ohio.     The inventory and settlement of the estate of Michael FRANKS #2, German Twp., Fayette County, Penna. was dated 22 Dec. 1818, and the original is on file at the Courthouse at Uniontown, Penna. Among a number of heirs and creditors mentioned in this accounting as receiving disbursements out of the estate is "Nicholas HELMICK who is intermarried with Mary - dau. of deceased."     Nicolas HELMICK, of Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio, made his will on 21 February 1844. He bequeathed to "beloved wife, Sarah HELMICK, in lieu of dower, the plantation where we now reside," the southwest corner of Sec. 21, twp.2, North Range 10 East, containing 40 acres. He bequeathed to granddaughter Katherine MANNEN (dau. of Katherine MANNING, deceased), $25; to grandson, William MANNEN (son of Katherine MANNING, deceased), $25; to granddaughter Alice Ann DeCORSEY (dau. of Katherine MANNING and wife of David DECOURSEY), $25.00; to granddaughter, Katherine MANNEN (daughter of George and Dorotha MANNING), $25; to grandson, George MANNEN (son of Dorotha MANNING), $25; to youngest son, Michael HELMICK, $50. The remainder of his estate he bequeathed to his children and grandchildren: Adam HELMICK, John HELMICK, Michael HELMICK, Mary CRUMBAUGH, Sary DeCORSEY (wife of Isaac DECOURSEY), Charlotte HOLMES, and Nancy SMITH. "William MANNEN and Alice Ann DeCORSEY being children of my deceased daughter Katherine MANNEN are to have one equal share with my own children. Also Mary WHITMAN (dau. of Katherine MANNING?). Katherine MANNEN, and George MANNEN, children and heirs of my daughter Dorotha MANNEN to have one equal share with my own children, that is to say, the first three named grandchildren to be considered as one heir and the two next mentioned grandchildren to be considered one heir and to have the same share as their mothers would have if living, exclusive of the first bequest to them given."     Nicholas HELMICK died 26 September 1844 at McComb, Hancock County, Ohio. He is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Section.A, Lot.51, Grave.1, Portage Twp. Hancock Co., Ohio. His will was entered for probate on 14 October 1844 and Jacob LOEHR qualified as executor. For some reason, not stated in the records, the heir's portions were not distributed until 1859 and 1860. In the record of the public sale of his personal property, one Isaac FRANK was one of the purchasers.

    On 16 June 1853, Sarah HELMICK, age 58, of Hancock County, Ohio, applied for a widow's pension. She declared that she was the Widow of Nicholas HELMICK, Revolutionary War pensioner; that she married Nicholas HELMICK on the 11th day of March 1834 in Hancock Co., Ohio by Charles THOMAS, J.P.; that her name before marriage was Sarah WARD; and that her husband, Nicholas HELMICK, died at Hancock County, Ohio on the 26th day of September 1844. Sarah HELMICK, widow of Nicholas HELMICK, had the distinction of being the last pensioner of the Revolution in the state of Ohio. She died 23 February 1879. Pension.#W489; Blwt.#36736-160-55.

    On 21 May 1860, $10.80 was paid from the estate of Nicholas HELMICK to Alice Ann DeCORSEY and David DECORSEY. Alice Ann MANNING, granddaughter of Nicholas HELMICK, had married 7 August 1836 to David DECOURSEY son of Peter and Magdalena (VanAKEN) DECOURSEY.
    On 21 May 1860, $10.30 was paid from the estate of Nicholas HELMICK to George MANNING, of Ransom (probably Ransom Twp., Hillsdale Co., Michigan). Michael HELMICK and L. J. SQUIER were witnesses.
    No record has been found that Nicholas HELMICK's daughter, Sally (HELMICK) DECOURSEY. or her heirs ever received her share of the inheritance of her father's estate. Sally moved to the Wisconsin wilderness with her husband, Isaac DECOURSEY, in 1836, eight years before her father's death; and she probably lost touch with her family.
