They had no children of their own. Ruth was born with an "incomplete heart", per several doctors in Children's Hospital, New Orleans, LA soon after her birth. She was fairly sedentary because of that.

Funeral serivces for Mrs. Nelwyn Ruth Ashburn, 26, of 6O4 fifth-wy, Pratt City, [ Birmingham, Alabama] who died Tuesday in a local hospital, will be held at 2:30 p.m., tomorrow, at the West End Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Elder C. R. Lickey and Elder L. R. Holley will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

A native of Bernice. La., she made her home in Kingsport,Tenn., before moving to Birmingham in 1946.

She is survived by her husband, A. D. Ashburn; a foster daughter, Frances Ruth Ashburn; her mother, Mrs. Hazel Williarnson, Kingsport, Tenn.; her father, Harris S. Williams, and a brother. Birmingham News; 3 Sep 1953, p23
