Deaths Registered in the Town of Sharon for the Year eighteen hundred and sixty-two.
    No.: 12
Date of Death: November 25 [1862]
Name: Nellie Pickering / m.n. Kelton
    Sex: Female
    Condition: Widow
    Age: 76 y. 3 m. 22 d. [birth calculates to about 3 Aug 1786 but see following comment]
    Cause: Typhoid Fever
    Place of Death: Sharon
    Occupation: [blank]
    Place of Birth: Warwick
Parents: Thomas Kelton / Mehetable Wescott Kelton
Birthplaces of Parents: Warwick / [blank]
[Note: The marriage record shows Thomas Kelton's 2nd wife was Mehitable Ingalls, not Wescott, but her identification is tentative. So further research is needed, but regardless, they did not marry utnil 1792 which would make Nellie's age as 70, not 76. Unforunately, the gravestone actually does appear to say 70, making it hard to simply wave off this question. Further, this record is probably dependent on how well-informed the informant was. Census records appear to agree with the 1786 birth, would would make Martha Simmons be the mother.]

    Nellie Kelton Pickering.

    NELLIE
    wife of
    Timothy Pickering

    DIED
    Nov. 22, 1862
    AE. 70 yrs.
[Note: gravestone hard to read, but age appears to say 70. The style of '6' such as seen in the death year 1862 just doesn't seem like a possibility. The memorial page presents the inscription as saying "Oct. 22. 1862. AE. 76 yrs." but the month appears to be Nov (which agrees with the death record) and the age appears to be 70 (which agrees with the name of her mother but not the age in her death record, and both visually and as transcribed by memorial page, the gravestone appears to say 22, not the 25 in the death record, as the day of the month.]
