In 1700 he dep. that he had been a dweller mostly on the Piscataqua river since the yr. 1648, but his ch. are recorded in Boston—a mariner and trading coaster until he brot his fam. to Great Isl. During many years he shifted his allegiance bet. the two provinces across the river, responsive to polit. or bus. consid. Selectm. of Portsm. 1664-66, 1669, 1670, 1673, 1675, 1677; selectm. of Kit. 1673, 1675, 1677. Com.t.e.s.c. Kit. 1676, 1677. He signed Maine petitions in 1662, 1686, was one of the Maine peace commrs. in 1678, sought probate appointments in either province. In 1686 he held lic. to sell liquors in Kit. and Cape Elizabeth and again in 1700. Aft. buying at the Shoals he was 'of Piscataqua in New Eng.' 1661, in Nov. 1664 of no place, in May 1686 'of Kittery,' 26 Oct. 1688, not knowing which way to jump, he was 'of piscataway river.' In the Maine courts from Oct. 1686 to Dec. 1687 he had been a judge on the bench. In Oct. 1694 he called himself 'Nathaniel Fryer, Sr., sometimes of Portsm. in New Eng. now of the Province of Maine.' In N. H. he was Rep. 1666, county treas. 1668-1680, Com.t.e.s.c. 1666-1670, Justice of the County Ct. under Dudley and Andros, usually Councillor under Gov. Allen until his death. His crowning glory was in 1695 as President of the Council. … He d. 13 Aug. 1705, altho his will, dated 10 Feb. 1704-5, was not proved until 1715. He m. 1st Christian, widow of James Allison of Boston, liv. 1674; 2d 29 Oct. 1679 Dorothy Woodbridge, a grdau. of Gov. Tho. Dudley.
