At Charleston, in the 51st year of his age, Lieut. Nathaniel Fanning, commanding officer of Gun-Boat No. 1. Lieut. Fanning was a native of Connecticut, and was actively employed, during the American Revolutionry (sic) war, on board different armed ships. Throughout the whole of that arduous contest, he supported the character of a brave soldier and a worthy man. In the action between the Bon homme Richard, and the Seraphis, lieut. Fanning obtained, by his gallantry, the warmest approbation of the celebrated naval commander, Paul Jones, under whom he served. In private life his conduct was exemplary.
