In Waterford, Conn., Feb. 1st, 1875, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Oliver Maxson, Mr. Nathan Rogers, aged 88 years. Bro. Rogers was born in Waterford, 1786, and at the age of seventeen, moved with his parents to Preston, N. Y. In 1816, he married Phebe Davis, daughter of Roger Davis of Brookfield. For a long time he tried the vain and too-oft repeated experiment of living religion to himself, but in 1821, he made a public profession, and united with the church in Preston. In 1852, he returned to the place of his childhood, and subsequently united by letter with the church in Waterford. Bro. Rogers deserves more than a passing notice, for he was more than an ordinary Christian laborer; her never failed, providence permitting, to fill his place in God's house, and take part in all religious exercises, until the weight of years bore too heaving upon him. During the most of his membership with the Waterford Church, he filled the office of deacon, and "purchased to himself a good degree and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus, holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience." But the veteran has fallen, and in the fall, that widow is bereft of a kind and affectionate husband, the only child, Mrs. O. Maxson, of a loving and indulgent father, and the church of one of its most faithful and active members.
