Naomi Brand Turner was born in 1849 at Heckington in Lincolnshire, daughter of Naomi Turner, formerly Hardstaff, and her husband Edward Turner, a farmer. When Naomi was less than two years old her mother Naomi died, aged 31. A few months later the 1851 census finds Naomi living with her widowed father and sisters at Heckington. In both the 1861 and 1871 censuses Naomi was still living with her father and sisters at Fen Drove in Heckington.

On 11th November 1873, Naomi was married in the registry office in Sleaford to John Thomas Zealand, a boot maker who was from Sutterton Fen, just east of Heckington Fen. They settled at Sutterton Fen after their marriage, having seven children in the area between 1876 and 1891.

Back in Heckington, Naomi's father died in 1879.

In 1880 Sutterton Fen was transferred with other adjoining areas of the fens to form a new parish called Amber Hill. Each census from 1881 to 1911 finds the family living at Amber Hill. John's father was living with them in 1881. Naomi worked as a dressmaker, whilst John worked variously as a boot and shoe maker, grocer and postman. In 1911 John and Naomi reported that five of their seven children were still living. Their son Oliver was also described as "feeble minded" in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses.

John died on 22nd August 1926, having collapsed suddenly whilst walking on the road near his home in Amber Hill. He was 74 years old. His obituary records that he had been a strong supporter of the Primitive Methodist Church, and was much respected.

Naomi survived him by twelve years. She died at her son Fred's house at King's Cliffe in Northamptonshire in December 1938, aged 89.

    AMBER HILL LADY'S DEATH
    OBITUARY.-We regret to announce the death of Mrs. Naomi Zealand, who was formerly a resident of Amber Hill for many years, and who also resided at Boston. The deceased lady passed away at the residence of her son, Mr. Fred Zealand, at King's Cliffe, Northamptonshire last week. She was nearly 90 years of age, and was predeceased by her husband some twelve years ago. She leaves three daughters and a son to mourn their loss. The interment took place at St. John's Church, Amber Hill on Friday when the Rev. Binnall, Rector of Manthorpe (in the unavoidable absence of the Rev. P.B.G. Binnall, Vicar of Amber Hill with Holland Fen) conducted the last funeral rites. The immediate mourners were:- Mr. and Mrs. A. Zealand (son and daughter-in-law), Amber Hill; Mr. and Mrs. F. Zealand (son and daughter-in-law), King's Cliffe; Mr. and Mrs E.H. Zealand (son and daughter-in-law), Old Leake; Mrs. F. Blakey (grand-daughter), Boston; Mrs. H. Lake (grand-daughter), Boston; Mr. and Mrs. W. Zealand (grandson and grand-daughter), Amber Hill; Mr. E. Zealand (grandson), Wigtoft; Mrs. Barnett (niece), Quadring; Mr. and J.T. Burdett, Amber Hill, Mrs. J.T. Beeken, Amber Hill, Mrs. F. Scott, Amber Hill, Miss E. Kent. The bearers were Messrs. H. Upton, J.A. Bristow, F. Scott and A. Sellars. Mr. F. Carlton of Hubbert's Bridge was responsible for the funeral arrangements.
