The Woods-McAfee Memorial source states that Nancy was probably born about the year 1780 at the old Woods homestead (Shepard Island Farm) on the James in Botetourt County, Virginia. She was but a babe in arms when, in 1782-3, the Woodses made the long and perilous journey through the wilderness to Kentucky.
The 1860 Mercer Co., Kentucky census shows that she was born in Kentucky -- see Mercer Co., Kentucky, Dwelling No. 548, Page No. 78 -- 14 August 1860.
