"Since you're using my web site as a source, I thought it would be a good idea to share my sources.

"That Jessee Outten had a son Purnell comes from a manuscript by Rev. John R. Outten...

"'The sons of Jesse Outten Sr. were named Isaac, Purnell and Jesse Jr. Isaac was a mariner, and his name appears on the assessment list of Broad Creek Hundred from 1803 to 1828. Isaac died Wed., Jan. 28, 1835. Purnell Outteen was associated with Isaac in the administration of his father's estate. He was a ship-carpenter by trade. On March 5, 1810, Purnell Outten and Nancy, his wife, sold to James Huffington a tract of land on the south side of Nanticoke River, about two acres, for $175.00. It probably means two hundred (200) acres. He was on the assessment list in Broad Creek Hundred from 1803 to 1836. Purnell and Nancy were the parents of James F. Outten, who was on the assessment list from 1827 to 1836.'" ...

"I have yet to double check the primary sources for either of these two secondary sources. Connecting these two Purnell Outtens is my tentative conclusion. It requires among other things that Nancy was Ann Huffington which seems reasonable since Nancy was a common nickname for Ann. However this is contrary to John Ullian's conclusion. He had assumed that his Purnell Outten was the son of Purnell and Mary (Houston) Outten. My sources for that family indicate that Purnell, son of Purnell & Mary, married Elizabeth Taylor who survived as his widow. I'd be happy to share information on this family if there is an interest." 10 NOV 1999
