    David Tate, born 1730 England, came to America as a Lieutenant in the King's Service after the establishment of the Colonies and never (as far as we know) returned to England. His term of service expired and he settled in Botetourt County, Virginia. It was there that he met and married Catherine Thornton.

    Edward Tate (born 1755, Botetourt County, VA.)

    Edward married Sarah McMullen and began housekeeping in Virginia not far from Sweet Springs. Then the family migrated to Greene County, Tennessee. After settling in Greene Co., they moved West, to either Illinois or Indiana (Clinton C. Ball stated his mother Nancy Tate was born in Indiana).
