Mrs. Nancy Gray
1827-1931
Mrs. Nancy Gray was born in Lawrence county, Indiana, March 17, 1827, and died at the home of her son James Gray six and one-half miles northeast of Lancaster, Mo., Wednesday, July 1, 1931, being at the time of her passing, 104 years, 3 months and 14 days.
She came to Schuyler county, Mo., with her parents when a small child and was married about eighty-nine years ago to Jerry Gray in Schuyler county and resided in the county until the death of her husband, which occured July 2, 1909. Since the death of her husband she has spent the years with her daughter in Kansas, until the passing away of her daughter three years ago, when she returned to her old neighborhood in the Darby locality and has made her home with her son James , and has been tenderly cared for by her son and family. She was the mother of nine children, five of whom have preceded her in death. the living children are Mrs. John Heaton of Downing, Mo., James Gray of Lancaster, Mo., Nancy Rhodes of Portland, Ore., Lucetta Falls of Seattle, Wash. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was converted while a young woman and united with the Baptist church and has lived in that faith. She was a very hard working active woman until her years began to be a burden, and for the last two years has been almost helpless.
Funeral services were conducted at the Darby church by Rev. W. T. Andrews on Thursday, July 2nd and the body was laid to rest by the side of her husband.
