    Mrs. August Weissgerber Dies

Nancy Miller was born in Alexan- der County, North Carolina, Decem- ber 16, 1861, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elzira Miller.

While a young woman she came to Randolph County, Illinois, and made her home there for several years. On November 30th, 1884, she was married to August Weissgerber at Steeleville, Illinois. They made their home in Randolph County for some eleven or twelve years, then moved to their present home, where they have lived for about 38 years.

This marriage was blessed with five children, four daughters and one son, namely, Mrs. Robert Davis and Mrs. George Kessel of Ava, Illnois; Mrs. Carl Reeves of Monroe, Louisi- ana, Mrs. Charles Bower of East St. Louis, Illinois, and John Weissger- ber of St. Louis. Mo.

All these children and the husband are left to mourn her departure. Also thirteen grandchildren. At the age of sixteen years she united with the Baptist Church and held to this faith during her entire life.

Her health began failing her about four years ago and continued to do so until her death, which occurred Sat- urday, October 5, 1935, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 19 days. She was a good mother, beloved of her children, always interested in them and in her work. A good neigh- bor, always willing to help in sick- ness and in need.

She will be sadly missed by hus- band and children, who can but say in their grief and loss, “God's will be done”.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday, October 7, 1935 at 1 o'clock P. M., by the Rev. E. R. Dugger of Ava, Illinois, followed by interment at the Bower Cemetery.

  8. 8.0 8.1 Nancy's date of birth presents some difficulties in that her obituary and later censuses list a later birthdate than the 1870 census by about four years. However, because the children in the 1870 census are listed with about two years separating most of the children, it seems difficult to suppose that this was a mistake and that the 1870 census has the wrong order of children. It is far more likely that either she did not know her age and always gave her birth year as 1861, or she intentionally made herself younger. Thus, the age given in the 1870 census is used to calculate her approximate year of birth here.
