  6. 6.0 6.1 While Temple says Simeon may have had a daughter Sophia, he indicates that he did have a son Moses. And he says that a Moses Mallory m. Betsey Caldwell. But he never connects the two persons.

The records are overlapping. The traditional view, well represented by Betsey Caldwell's Find A Grave memorial, is that Moses must have died about 1826 since Betsey and Joab Fairman married in 1827. However, there many signs that Moses didn't die. The records that might allow a conclusive reconciliation of all this are inonveniently remaining hidden from various searches, in particular the death record of Moses or a presence in the 1820 census.

Moses appears in a deed selling land with Simeon Jr.'s children with a wife Polly, but the man who married Polly Newell before 1824 would have been too old to be a son of Simeon Jr. and comparison with earlier deeds suggest it is Simeon Jr.'s brother. The census shows this man moved to Wisconsin and was of an age to fit into Simeon Sr.'s family.

In view of that absence of records, the two families that both appear to be Moses Mallory are combined into one person on this page. Caveat: The combination appears impossible in normal circumtances because births happen in both families at the same time.
