    Morris Shane (McShane) ran away from his home in Ireland when very young. He came to Tennessee in the early part of 1780. He entered 640 acres near Goodlettsville in 1785.
    He married Phoebe Castleman about 1785. They were present at the Buchanan Fort the night of the Indian attack Sept. 30, 1792.
    Morris Shane was on guard in the block house nearest the creek and was the first to discover and fire on the Indians who were congregating at the Fort gate. Mrs. Buchanan and Mrs. Shane sprang from their beds without taking time to dress and started moulding bullets and passing them to the men, along with brandy and words of cheer.
    Phoebe Castleman Shane was the daughter of Jacob and Rhoda Robertson Castleman, and sister of John, Jacob, Andrew, Benjamin and Joseph (?).

    Jacob Shane, who married a Miss Bowles.
    Andrew Shane, who married Martha Green.
    James B. Shane, who married Asenath Guthrie.
