Sioux City Journal, Friday, May 16, 2003 Mona Lund LE MARS, Iowa -- Mona Lund, 83, of Michigan City, Ind., formerly of Le Mars, passed away Monday, May 12, 2003, at Life Care Center in Michigan City. Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Mona Tullis was born Feb. 11, 1920, on a farm in Liberty Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, to William and Gertrude (VanDyke) Tullis. She graduated from Liberty High School and attended Western Union (Westmar) College in Le Mars. Following her education, she taught in rural schools in northern Iowa for 12 years. On June 14, 1950, she and Donald Lund were united in marriage in Sioux City. The couple owned and operated a farm in Fredonia Township, Plymouth County, from 1950 until their retirement in 1979. Donald passed away on Sept. 25, 1989. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She served in a variety of capacities, including teaching catechism and Sunday School and serving as church secretary. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved needlework. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Rebecca and her husband, Richard Butler, of Michigan City, Ind., and William Lund of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Richard Butler Jr., Robert Butler, John Butler and Christopher Butler; and four great-grandchildren, Aaron Butler, Johnathon Butler, Richard Butler III and AnaNicole Butler. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; and her siblings, Wilbur Tullis, Howard Tullis, Frank Tullis, Pearl Johnson, Hazel Johnson, Lloyd Tullis and Lilla Mae Marine.
