GOODALE, Mary Howe, w. Abner, [born] Sept. 28, 1757. GS1
[Note: the birthdate of Abner's wife given precisely the same as Eliakim's daughter is the only evidence that appears to confirm her parentage (as asserted in Hudson, p. 371, but not shown in Howe Genealogies, Vol. 2, p. 68). Her father moved to Henniker about 1763 so her being the woman who married 16 years later, in 1779, a Marlborough man and lived in Marlborough is not a given.
The only gravestone found on Find A Grave lists her birth only as a year, 1757, which we can tell from the age at death, so it is not proof. It also has a 5-generation line of Goodales, the most recent born 1822 and died 1900, so it appears to be erected long after the fact, and representing only the research of a descendant. However, Source:Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Marlborough, Massachusetts, Burial Ground Inscriptions (published in 1908), p. 100, lists an inscription [Spring Hill Burying Ground, #187]:
MARY HOWE,
wife of Abner Goodale
born Sept. 28, 1757,
died Nov'r 15, 1818,
aged 61.
This is the gravestone that apparently is represented in the VRs and constitutes the evidence of parentage.]
