>This is the first 'Minor Winn' found in Virginia that has any documentation associated with his existence, the most important one being his will, which lists his children. >From John Wright Boyd's book, A Family History, Lt. Thomas Fortson(1742-1824) and some of his decendants: 'Minor Winn of Caroline Co. VA, 1733-1734, hunter of wolves. Bought land in Orange Co. VA 1734-Married Margaret O'Conner. He removed from Orange Co. to Fauquier Co. Sons Minor, Richard, William, James and John, daughters Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, Susannah, Martha Ann. He was great great grandfather of Gen. Stonewall Jackson. Minor Winn 1732-1734 lived at Edgehill, Caroline Co. VA, went to Orange Co from there to Fauquier. He hunted wolves 1732. From Order book.< >A court record from Caroline Co. At court held 10 October 1733 To Major Wyn for five young wolfs heads as per certificate from John Martin, Gent. 500 lbs tobacco. >Before 1765 Minor Winn II and wife Margaret settled on Little River in Fauquier county Virginia, buying land from Richard Lee and building the first stone house, it was called 'Rock Hill' or 'Rock Mill'. This property also may have been called 'Greystone.' A survey done onApril 10, 1936 for the Virginia Historical Inventory Project, by Francis B. Foster, is found at the Library of Virginia. This record states that this home was built around 1775, rectangular in shape, 2.5 stories, and made of stone. It is found 3.4 miles east of The Plains, Virginia on route 15. Primary owners listed as Richard Lee, Winn family, William Rust, John Carter and Field family.< >Minor Winn II left the bulk of his estate to his wife Margaret and his son Minor Winn III. His will was written July 31, 1775, recorded March23, 1776 in Will Book 1, page 343, Warrenton, Fauquier county Virginia. Probated March 23, 1778.< **See attached will. References
