Minnesota Collins was the second white child born to pioneerr settlers in what was to become Pleasant Grove township and Olmsted County, State of Minnesota. Born September 21, 1854, daughter of John and Minerva Collins at the Collins claim just east of Curtis settlement, which later was platted as the village of Pleasant Grove. July 28, 1891, at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Flathers married William Carothers. They resided on the groom's farm in Sumner township, Fillmore County, Minnesota, until 1921, when she and her husband moved to California to make their home. In 1937 they returned to the family farm. Minnesota Collins Carothers died April 7, 1938, at the family farm home of her stepson, Harry Carothers. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, site of her birth and childhood home. She was preceeded in death by a stepson, Merrill Carothers. Her husband, William Carothers died January 22, 1940. Burial at Pleasant Grove.
