MINERVA BURDICK

We have been unable to find any record of her parentage. They were many Burdick familes in New York and even in Warren County at the approximate time of her birth.

Her daughter Minerva Martha gives parents on death certificate of Frederick Plum and Minerva Burdick. Which would imply birth name is Burdick, 1st husband is Plum and 2nd husband is Phelps. As Minerva Martha was born to Minerva and 1st husband in 1838, that would imply that marriage to Norman Phelps would be after 1838. Which would fit with marriage date of 1842 which is implied by 1855 NY census. Therefore marriage date of 1834 given on the phelpsinc.com website has to be incorrect. Perhaps that is the date of her first marriage.

1855 New York Census has Minerva living in Washington County for past 13 years and her husband Norman, Jr living there for 62 years. That implies that Minerva did not marry Norman until at least 1842 when she moved to Washington County. That calculation also fits in with their first child being born in Dec 1842.

We have birth years running from 1801 to 1811 from various census records. We are using 1803 as that is what is on her gravestone. Although, we have no evidence that is correct.

1865 Washington County census says she had 10 children (but we believe that actually refers to Norman, not to her).

In an email from John Austin: From my notes on early families of Bolton: -Plum- Frederick Plum m. Minerva Burdick; listed in 1840 (0010001/1111101, “Fredrick”); note Joseph at Westfield in 1790 and John Plumbe at Queensbury in 1810; known child: i Minerva M. b. Bolton c. 1838; Minerva Plumb, 12, was in the Paul Thomas h/h at Queensbury in 1850; d. Bolton 15 Oct. 1911, ae. 73, a housewife and 56-year resident; m. ----- Burgess. J. Plum m. H. -----; known child: i Freddie b. c. 1861; d. 8 Feb. 1862, ae. 6m 20d, bur. Edmonds Cem., Bolton. John Austin
