With Milan's mother dying during childbirth of twins, Milan's father (Otis Longfellow) decided to put him up for adoption.

Otis had six daughters to care for and Milan was so small they kept him near the wood stove. They lost one twin at birth. It is our understanding that Otis gave his son to a good friend and his wife who were unable to have children as he was so distraught over the death of his beloved wife.
