Highly Respected Citizen Passed AwayS4

Another old and highly respected citizen of Collingwood passed away on Thursday, when Michael White entered into eternal rest at his home on Walnut Street. He had been in good health until last Saturday when he became suddenly ill. On Sunday he was seized by paralysis from the effects of which he did not recover, passing away on Thursday morning just before noon.

The deceased, who was in his 83rd year, was born in Toronto on July 4th, 1847. He spent his younger days in that city and later took up residence at redwing. On February 28th, 1871 (sic,) he was married to Fannie Grey and together they farmed at Redwing for twenty-four years. Thirty-four years ago they moved into Collingwood where they have since resided.

Mr. White was always a kindly and loveable character and highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends. He did not take part in public life bust was a quiet disposition. He was a true Christian and a faithful and consistent member of Trinity United Church, the services of which he regularly attended, occupying as usual his seat on the Sunday proceeding his illness.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Albert at home and Fred, who resides on Birch Street, and four daughters, Amelia at home, Mrs. James E. General of Hamilton, Mrs. Isaac Brock of Nottawa and Mrs. Frank Hutchison of Heathcote. One son, Frank, died in 1925. He is survived by a brother George in Detroit and a sister, Mrs. David White of Thornbury. A brother William died in November, 1928, and a sister, Mary Ann in 1911.
