    "… Mercy Clark, born (no record), living at Lebanon, Conn., as late as 13 Mar. 1732 daughter of James1 Clark of New Haven, Conn., by his unknown first wife. … the [New Haven] Townsmen … met … on 8 Aug. 1701, and passed this order: 'Agreed that the wife of John Culuer of Stoningtowne with several of thare children come hither in [16]99 … warned according to law and bond was given till first of last March by Samll Clark her brother for the preventing of charge, give further warning and proceed as ye laws of this Colony Directs to bring ye woman to her husband to her proper Residence which was forthwith done …'"

  3.   Jacobus did not include Mercy in the family of James Clark in his sketch of the family in Families of Ancient New Haven, 2:407-10 (1924). The connection was apparently made when it was determined that her 1701 bond was posted by "Samll Clark her brother."
