Allred, p. 110, gives Melinda a second marriage to John Bancroft in 1836. This is clearly an error, as any investigation shows (Melinda Gale married as Melinda Gale, not Melinda Chase, and there are gravestones for both woman each showing ages incompatible with the other's birth). Allred gives the same marriage to a different Melinda on p. 109. That Melinda is the niece of Joseph Chase's wife, daughter of her brother Ira.
