    15 Sep 2004.

Obituary by Randy Kennedy. Notes that he was the architect of David Geffen Hall (originally Philharmonic Hall, then renamed to Avery Fisher Hall, before renaming to current), this being the "most prominent and emblematic" of his style. Also indicates that "...he did not develop a signature style and he did not cut the kind of larger-than-life figure that many of his architectural contemporaries did." Abramovitz' long time design partner was Wallace K. Harrison, a member of the Rockefeller family. Abromovitz was the son of Romanian immigrants. At the time of his death, he had a living son and daughter and five grandchildren.
