Obituary CARL CLAY DIES AT 80; RETIRED GREENFORD FLORIST Carl Clay, 80, of Green Twp., RD 5, Salem, died of a heart ailment in Salem City Hospital Wednesday at 9:20 p.m. after two years of failing health. Born Feb. 1, 1889, in the home where he spent his life, son of Chancey and Millie Holloway Clay, he was a retired florist and member of the Greenford Lutheran Church. A charter member of Greenford Grange, he belonged to Greenford Senior Citizens, was past counselor of UCT and a former member of Knights of Pythlas. A 32nd degree Mason, he belonged to Perry Lodge, Omega Council Salem Chapter, Salem Commandary and Aut Mori Grotto of Youngstown. He was a past patron of the Salem Eastern Star. Preceded in death in 1949 by his wife, the former Nora Rupright, whom he married in 1911; he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Drew of Columbiana and Mrs. Martha Graham, with whom he made his home; a son, Cecil of Beloit RD 1; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two step-daughters and four step-sons. Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Newall officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
