Elizabeth LYLE was born in 1734 in County Antrim, Ireland. She died on 17 Feb 1802 in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

    MATTHEW LYLE DONALD, born in Ireland September 18, 1766, came to Virginia with his parents in 1775. Student at Liberty Hall Academy (now Washington and Lee University) and his name is still to be seen written one of the walls.

    Witness to will of JAMES LYLE, his uncle, in 1791. He was a Presbyterian preacher, went from Virginia to Tennessee. In 1811, he with four other preachers organized the "Presbytery of West Tennessee" at Bethesda in Maury County. Two years later, this presbytery, with two others, formed a synod, and became the "Cumberland Presbyterian Church."

    He died October 24, 1829. He married in 1892, Mrs. NANCY WALKER, nee CAUGHRON or CAWBORN, born October 15, 1771, died September 25, 1855. She was the widow of WILLIAM WALKER , by whom she had two children: 1. WILLIAM WALKER, born 1800 2. POLLY WALKER, born 1802, married JAMES ROVELY. Donnell was listed as Donald in some census. His wife, Nancy Walker(1771-1855) was also listed. He was Presbyterian minister, philanthropist, educator He was one who participated in the founding of a Presbyterian College in Maryville, Tennessee. In book of The Synod of Tennessee by Rev. J.E. Alexander, D.D., Synodical roll of Ministers by Presbyteries lists Matthew Donnell. He was licensed May 28, 1802 and ordained 1804 and installed the church known as Grassy Valley which later changed to Ebenzer in 1833. Bill Duffey's record shows Matthew born on 1766 in Ireland and name spelled as Donald.

    The father of the Hon. RHD was Rev. Matthew Donald, who was born in Ireland, came to America when young, settled in Tennesee, became a minister of the Old School Presbyterian church, and married the widow Nancy Walker whose maiden name was Cochran. Nine children blessed this union of whom RHD is the youngest. [Note: b. Rhea County, TN, 7 Aug 1821.] He lost his father at an early age andwas taken to Monroe County, TN, five years, thence went to McMinn County,then went to Alabama in 1836; and came in 1852 to Texas.
