Matilda is the daughter of Peder Jensen and Anna Hedevig Maria Malling. Her first marriage was to Lars Alexander Justesen, in Spring City, Sanpete County 1857. They had 1 son and 4 daughters. Alexander was tragically killed by Indians in 1868 while trying to help re-open the area of Alma (Monroe)which they had been forced out previously because of Indian hostilities. This left poor Matilda with 4 young daugthers to take care of on her own. (Her firstborn, Don Carlos only lived a couple of months.)A year later in 1869 Matilda became the 2nd wife of her sister-in-law's husband Frederick Olsen. To this union were born 6 more children. (It is debatable whether there were 6 or 7. There are 2 Matilda's listed as being born to Matilda and Frederick; Matilda Jensine and Matilda Anenna. Both have conflicting birth and death data. So whether they are the same or different remains to be seen.)
