It seems likely that he exaggerated his age.
- Matthew Simpson Scott, in Find A Grave.
Find A Grave (and several trees) say that Anderson Sullivan was Matthew's father, implying that both Matthew and his brother Joel were the illegitimate children of Anderson Sullivan and Elizabeth Scott. This might be true, in which case, the information in the death record of Joel Scott (parents were Jerry Scott and Elizabeth Sullivan) is incorrect. Alternately, the death record might be correct, in which case Anderson Sullivan may have been related in some way to Matthew and Joel (although not apparently their uncle). In either case, Matthew and Joel were the children of Elizabeth who later married William Jackson.
