Her mother died when she was yet ten years old.

In the 1860s she moved with her father from Kansas to Ottawa County, Michigan, where she met and married her first husband.

At the time of her first marriage she was probably living with her father in or near Hudsonville.

    This record says she was born in Ottawa County MI however other public records show she was born in Kane County IL.

    I have found an old piece of paper in our family Davis Bible, with a whole family of Meads written on it. For years we thought our G.G. Grandma Mary Jane Barber (later married Eri B. Davis) was Hopkins as her maiden name. However, this name Hopkins appears NOWHERE in family records, even in the other Bible (Barber/Durrin Bible) Here are the names and birthdates of the family:
    Ira Mead b. Sept. 30, 1805.
    Salome Mead b. Sept. 29, 1811.
    Their Children:
    Henry b. Nov. 20, 1830.
    Loanna b. Jan. 19, 1833.
    Jane b. June 5, 1835. (my. G. G. Grandma)
    Gilbert b. April 9, 1837.
    William, b. June 13, 1839.
    George b. June 19, 1841.
    Julia b. Aug. 20, 1843.
    Also appearing on this paper is a Salome Wilson b. April 29, 1850.
