Facts and Events
Name Mary Whitson
Gender Female
Marriage to James Theophilus Dillon
Death[1] Aft 23 Jan 1759 Bertie, North Carolina, United States

The only record of this woman is her 23 Jan 1759 consent for her son Richard Dillon to be bound to Christopher Harrison to learn the Cooper's trade in Bertie County, North Carolina (the apprenticeship was dated 26 Jan), in which consent she signed her name as "Mary Whitson." See the record on Richard Dillon's page. Whether or not "Whitson" was her married name or maiden name is not totally clear. I may suggest, however, that the necessity of having her son bound out in 1759 should have been lessened were she married at that time. See my discussion regarding her relationship to James Theophilus Dillon on Richard Dillon's page. Mary Whitson may or may not have been related to the Michael Whitson and Michael Whitson Jr. shown in the Bertie County tax list of 1757 (Mountain Press, "1757 Bertie County, North Carolina Tax List," 6, 8).
