"The marriage of Miss Mary Spargo Wardwell of Washington, D.C., to James Laird Clovis of St. Marys, W.Va., on Monday, May 27, was announced recently by the bride's mother, Mrs. Charles Howard Wardwell of Washington, D.C. The ceremony was held at the Church of the Christine, Newport, O., with the Rev. E.G. Rockliff officiating. Mrs. Clovis is a graduate of Marietta College. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority and also belonged to the following honorary societies: Epsilon Delta Pi, Pi Delta Epsilon, Chi Delta Pi and Alpha Psi Omega. Last fall she was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She is the daughter of the late Charles Howard Wardwell of Rutland and Mary Spargo, formerly of Bennington. Mr. Clovis is the son of Mrs. H.T. Clovis and the late Harry Theodore Clovis. He is a portrait artist. He studied at the Corcoran in Washington, D.C., and with Paul Collin in Paris.
