  2.   In the book "Early Settlers of Lee County, Virginia" page 698 - 699, is an article about Mary Stevens as the daughter of Thomas Stevens. The is also an article in Volume II, Number 4, pages 280 - 282, April 1903, "William and Mary Quarterly."

    Mary made application for widow's pension June 17, 1844 in Lee County, Virginia and it was granted. On June 17, 1844, Thomas Burke, a resident of Lee County, Virginia appeared before Joseph Doff, Justice of the Peace and stated he was fifty one years of age in September. He made this affidavit, that he was the son of John and Mary Burk and fourth child born to them. Mary's declaration was taken by Joseph Doff, Justice of the Peace. Lee County, Virginia Court Order Book 5, pages 322-323.

    March 21, 1848 Thomas Burke was made administrator of the estate of Mary Burke. He stated that Mary Burk was the widow of John Burk, Revolutionary War soldier, and she had received a pension. He went on to say that Mary died October 30, 1846 and that she left 7 children only, whose names were, John Burk, Lydia Burk, Catherine Phipps, Robert Burk, Lucy Anderson and David Burk and that they still survived at that time.
