Her father’s obituary in the Mansfield, Ohio, News Journal 10 January 1949 page 10 Smucker Rites at Wooster Memorial services for Vernon J. Smucker, 59, father of John Smucker of the Perez-Smucker studio, will be held at the First Presbyterian churchin Wooster at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Smucker died at Lakeside hospital in Cleveland Saturday following an operation for a brain tumor. He had been living at his husband’s home, Mansfield R. D. 5, and was associated with his son at the studio. Mr. Smucker was a former principal of Wooster high school. In addition to his son here, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. M. C. Smucker of Smithville; another son, james smucker, a missionary in India; a daughter, Mrs. Dayton Hulburt of Berea, Ky.; a brother, Jesse Smucker of Bluffton; a sister Miss Anna Smucker of Smitvhville; and four grandchildren. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
