Memories from Francis Ray (Red) Potter and daughter, Deb:
"Mary Ann lived with daughter Ollie Potter at one time. Ollie's grandson, 'Red', was a high-spirited red-headed little boy. Mary Ann had a special rocking chair and would sit in it smoking a clay pipe, in a doorway by a hall. He loved to run down the hall and around the corner where she sat. Every time, she would stick her foot out and trip him. Then she would yell to Ollie to come spank this 'red-headed devil'."
Mary Ann celebrated her 100th birthday at Siam, IA, 7 Nov 1935. A news clipping reported her family came to IA a few years after she was born. She told of the many hardships of the trek across the wide prairies.
