Here lyes ye body of Mrs Mary Bancr[oft] wife of Jonathan Bancroft who Died Octobr [??]th [1732] in ye [??] Year of Her Age. [Note: bracketed text presumed. Digits can't be discerned from image, especially given discrepancy of records. The memorial page gives date 4 Oct but cites Reading records, so this does not seem to reflect a reading of the gravestone.]
- ↑ As noted above, it is difficult to read the gravestone with confidence, based on the photo. It is possible to see that Source:Ullmann, Helen S. Pierponts of Roxbury, Massachusetts shows 5 Oct, citing source "83" but so far, the description of source 83 cannot be determined to see if it is something beside the Wakefield VRs already cited above.NEHGR, p. 94:315 says 4 Oct 1732 while mentioning her burial in Wakefield Church cemetery. One could presume they inspected the gravestone, since neither Reading nor Wakefield VR record seems to indicate a gravestone as their source. The Wakefield record is indicated as a church record, and so 5 Oct 1732 may well be the date of burial?
