"American Nyes records a first child Mary born 'abt. 1679'." This estimated birth date is presumably based on Mary being named first among older children in her father's will.

Children of Jonathan Nye and second wife: Mary, born ---, m. 7 Mar 1728 John Fuller.
[Mary was placed by this source between the two pairs of twins, Isaac and Abigail, b. 1702, and David and Zerviah, b. 1706. Presumably this placement is based on the date of marriage given, but seems unlikely for a couple of circumstantial reasons: 1) other unrecorded births are all older children, 2) Mary is not included in the separate list of apparently youngest daughters in her father's will which included the three daughters; Patience, b. 1693, Abigail, b. 1702 and "Zurviah", b. 1706.

More importantly, it also seems unlikely because the given wedding appears to belong to a different Mary Nye. Source:Fuller, Hubert. Fuller Family in England and America, p. 137, identifies the wife of John Fuller as "Maria Nye", the daughter of Nathan and Mercy Nye (Nathan's daughter is also seen recorded as Mercy and Mariah). The Fuller Genealogy's identification appears confirmed by the following items: Nathan's will of 1741 calls his daughter Mariah Jones (see Nye Genealogy, i.e., this source, p. 45). John Fuller, s/o Benjamin, m. Maria Ney but d. 1732 in the 27th year of his age according to his gravestone (see Source:NYGBR, p. 36:34). Barnstable VRs show that in 1737 Jedidiah Jones m. Mariah Fuller (Source:MD, p. 33:170), so that in 1741 she would have been named Mariah Jones as specified in the will. As further confirmation that it was Maria (Nye) Fuller that married Jedidiah Jones, note that they named a son Nye Jones (see Source:MD, p. 31:140).

So, removing this marriage as a fact and constraint, the ordering in the father's will strongly suggests this Mary was the oldest child.]
