Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - August 1, 2005 BERNARD, Iowa - Mary Jean McCarthy, 63, of 357 Bernard Road, Bernard, died peacefully at home on Saturday evening, July 30, 2005, following a long illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, with the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery, Garryowen. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 2 p.m. She was born on Nov. 15, 1941, in Maquoketa, daughter of Frank and Lolita (Breitbach) McLaughlin. She graduated from Maquoketa High School and Clarke College in Dubuque, and received her master's degree from Clarke. She married Jack McCarthy on July 3, 1965. They have resided in Bernard since 1966. She spent many years as an elementary teacher, the majority of them in the Western Dubuque School System. Surviving are her husband and longtime caregiver, Jack, of Bernard; a daughter, Kate (Darin) Williams, of Lisbon; two grandchildren, Nick and Tyson Williams; and a brother, Loras McLaughlin, of Maquoketa. She was preceded in death by her parents. Online condolences may be left for the family at [email protected].
