Leader in cultural, social and music circles. Mother of Edwin Schallert, drama critic at the Los Angeles Times for over 40 years. She arrived in Los Angeles in 1885, with her first husband John J. Schallert and the city's musical life centered around their mansion at 11th & Main Streets as they had the first pipe organ installed in a private home in Los Angeles. She was the organizer of the St. Vincent's Choir with Senator Stephen M. White's wife as organist. She was also the first musical curator of the Wilshire Ebell Club. She was on the board of directors of the National Council of Catholic Women and at the time of her death was President of the Queen's Daughters, a Catholic lay organization. In 1931, she was made a Noble Dame in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, one of the highest papal decorations a Catholic can receive. Also an original organizer of the Los Angeles Community Chest, a Red Cross board member and member of the DAR.
