    ... E1. Mary Mansfield, born in 1790, in Rutherford county, North Carolina. She was first graduate from the Salem Academy, Forsythe County, North Carolina. Her father sent to London, England, for a piano, and sent it to Salem for her especial benefit - it being the first piano in this part of the State. She was afterward educated in Raleigh, N.C., and became quite an accomplished lady ; was modest and unassuming ; was a true patriot, and when the War of 1861 came on she worked early and late making clothes for the soldiers. She was a member of the Methodist church. She died of heart disease in 1872, honored and beloved by all who knew her.
