History of the Town of Norton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, p. 84, suggests William Hodges, the father, "did not remain in town [Norton] may years; but probably, on the death of his father in 1719, or soon after, removed to the old homestead in Taunton". The birth is not recorded, so this suggests the birthplace is probably Taunton.
