Burial[2] 25 Feb 1807 Saltash, Cornwall, EnglandSt Stephen by Saltash

Mary Grubb was baptised on 3rd December 1743 at St Ive in eastern Cornwall, daughter of Joanna Grubb, formerly Crews, and her husband Richard Grubb. She was the third of their four children. In 1749, when Mary was only five years old, her father died.

Mary was married on 8th July 1764, aged 20, to William Axford at the neighbouring parish of South Hill. Mary's mother Joanna gave her consent for the marriage, presumably because Mary was not yet 21 years old. No evidence has yet been found for the couple having any children, and it has yet to be established when or where William died. It would appear that Mary later moved to the Saltash area, which is also where some of her sister Joanna's descendants had settled.

Mary appears to have died in 1807, aged 63. She was buried on 25th February 1807 at Saltash's parish church of St Stephen, although her burial record gives her abode as 'Dock' - which is presumably the town then called Plymouth Dock but later renamed Devonport.

Needs to be confirmed at Cornwall Record Office. This baptism can be linked to the Mary Grubb who married William Axford in 1764 on the basis of that 1764 marriage record which says "with consent of mother Joanna Grubb".
