p 5 - Grandmother Mary (Frazier) Fiers was no shrinking violet when there was a clear call for courage or social conscience. She was remembered as an active member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, uniform and all, whose idol was Carrie Nation. The family story is told of several barrels of liquor being destroyed in a speakeasy near Iroquois. The hounds traced the scent right to her front door. Standing in the doorway, feet planted firmly, hands on her hips, Grandmother Fiers said to the officers simply and forcefully, "Well!" There was no further investigation , no charge, no arrest.
