MAXWELL PIONEER BURIED SUNDAY
She Had Lived in County Forty Years -- Survived by Two Daughters
Mary A. Darling was born January 8, 1836, in New York state, where she lived until 1856. She then went to Wisconsin and two years later was united in marriage with William Griffith. Four children were born to them.
In 1873 Mr. Griffith and his family came to Maxwell and took the land that is still known as the Griffith farm. He passed away November 10, 1880 and his wife remained on the old homestead until her death.
Mrs. Griffith was an earnest christian woman whose years were ones of self sacrifice and helpfulness. She was ill ony five years with pneumonia but with her advanced years she could not fight the disease.
Funeral services were held at the residence in Maxwell and at the Presbyterian church in this city Sunday afternoon, Rev. L.H. Schock officiated. Interment was made in the Dawson cemetery.
Deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Myra Bell, of Maxwell, and Mrs. H.A. Hough, of Rossburg. Her daughter Amy, passed away a number of years ago and her son, Barney Griffith, preceded her by four years. Two brothers, John and Josiah Darling of Maxwell survive her.
The pall-bearers were her four grandsons, Lyle Griffith, Winifred Bell, Mathias Mattson, Roland Toombs, and two other young men, George Darling and Howard Palmer.
We extend sympathy to the bereaved ones.
