Death: Dec., 1859

Mary Anne Culberson was the third child of the twelve children born to Andrew Culbertson and Anne Elizabeth Quickenbush of Chatham County, North Carolina. Mary dropped the "T" from her maiden name as did many others of her generation. She was a descendant of the Andrew "Irish" Culbertson (1694-1756) of Londonderry, Londonderry County, Ireland.
Mary meet her husband Nathaniel York at church. The Rev Shuble Stearns was the founder and pastor of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church in eastern Randolph County, North Carolina. Nathaniel York was a faithful member and leader in the church on Sandy Creek. Rev Shuble Stearns had started a missionary church Rocky River Baptist Church over in Chatham County where he traveled to preach. It is most likely as these two church congregations visited each other, held revival meetings and social gatherings is where Mary and Nathaniel meet and fell in love. They were married about 1796 most likely in her home church, Rocky River Baptist Church in Chatham County, North Carolina.
Mary's parents are believed to be buried in the old section of the Rocky River Baptist Church Cemetery.
